MOON LAKE RANCH - WILDLIFE REFUGE

Andy and Carol have always been nature enthusiasts and animal lovers. Carol is a hobbyist photographer and many of the pictures you see were taken by her. Andy has been an avid bird watcher and has read countless books on native American flora and fauna. Upset by the decline of Mid-Western species populations which include the legendary bison, the migrating elk, and endangered birds, the Mullers began planning to create a nature preserve. And, in 2003, they found their perfect haven in Jonestown, Nebraska.

However, just like building a railroad empire from scratch, this venture would require tenacity and resources along with an almost complete land revival spanning over 16,000 acres of grounds. From 2003 to the present, Andy, Carol, and the Muller family’s vision has been realized. The land is now a playground to over 1,600 bison, 209 elk, mule deer, goats, badgers, countless bird species, and ground-dwelling mammals, all supported by a natural ecosystem with minimal human intervention.

The ultimate goal is to have these animals roam free in the land they used to call home.
